Come, join us for an evening of entertainment and education as the North California Arts Collective (NCAC) presents Juke Joint Jukebox, a musical journey through the history of American juke joints and jukeboxes.
The event is a fundraiser for the 6th Street Playhouse and features a talented cast of theatrical singers performing iconic music from the origination of juke joints during slavery through the late 1960s.
Some of the songs that will be performed include “Follow the Drinking Gourd,” “Minnie the Moocher,” and “Dancing in the Streets.”
Paying Homage
Creator/Director Gary Stanford Jr. pays homage to his ancestors in the production and leads a phenomenal team of local performers, including Sumi Cardinale, Sharon Griffiths, Parker Jones, Daniel Marchbanks, Annabelle Terry, Monica Airo, J. Demetrius Olivier, and Aja Gianola-Norris.Benjamin Sakaguchi serves up his piano brilliance, Joe Hudelson rails away on drums and Aja Ginaola Norris brings the sweet sounds of the harp to accompany the show.
