Xanadu JR. is inspired by the Tony Award-nominated Broadway musical and the Universal Pictures’ cult classic movie in which Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly famously starred.

Xanadu JR. is a moving, electrifying tale of endless fun that will keep audiences in stitches while the original, legendary chart-topping tunes lift them out of their seats. Xanadu JR. follows the journey of a magical Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, California, on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time – the first Roller Disco. (Hey, it’s 1980!) But, when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation, and chaos abounds. With a flexible cast size and lots of room for large disco dance numbers, Xanadu JR. will have your students rolling along (no skates required!).

Teen Improv and Acting

What do you want? What’s in your way?

These are some of the basics of modern acting methods… and life! In this class, teens will have the opportunity to do in-depth work on scenes, monologues, and improv techniques with a duo of working professionals as their teachers. (You can check their bios out on our Teaching Artist page!) Students will walk away from class with an understanding of various contemporary acting methods, the basics of longform improv, an audition monologue in their pocket, and a close-knit group of creative friends with whom they’ve shared a conservatory level experience. The class will culminate in an optional showcase where students from all 6th Street’s skill-based classes will have a chance to take the stage and shine!

Stagecraft

Stagecraft

Join 6th Street’s Technical Director, Martin Gilbertson and Assistant Technical Director, Luca Catanzaro, to understand the methods, materials, and techniques of realizing the physical production on the stage, including scenery, properties, lighting, and sound. This class gives practical hands-on experience in stagecraft and culminates in the creation of the sets and props for 6th Street’s Summer Camp performance of Madagascar Jr. Our young theater techs will be proud to see their handy work featured this summer and add it to their budding portfolios!
