A Christmas Story: The Musical
A Beloved Holiday Classic Steps Boldly into Song
SANTA ROSA, CA (Oct. 24, 2025)- This Holiday Season, 6th Street Playhouse brings the cherished 1983 film to life in A Christmas Story: The Musical. Bursting with festive spirit, iconic moments, and a Tony-nominated score by Pasek & Paul (The Greatest Showman, Dear Evan Hansen), this story is a reminder of the magic and mayhem of family holidays. Directed by Laura Downing-Lee (Pride and Prejudice), with Music Direction by Les Pfutzenreuter (The Pirates of Penzance) and Choreography by Malia Abayon (The Pirates of Penzance Kids), this production features 6th Street’s largest cast of kids in a mainstage show since the pre-COVID era. Running November 21 through December 21, 2025, in the GK Hardt Theater.
“Great for the whole family!”
—Sonya Huss, San Francisco Theater
In 1940s Indiana, young Ralphie Parker wants just one thing for Christmas – a Red Ryder Carbine Action 200-shot Range model Air Rifle BB gun. But between his parents’ worries, a cranky department store Santa, and schoolyard bullies, Ralphie’s holiday wish begins to seem hopeless. As Christmas draws nearer, his overactive imagination runs wild with daydreams of heroism, revenge, and the perfect shot. Meanwhile, his father proudly wins a “major award”, his mother tries to keep the household in one piece, and his little brother refuses to eat dinner. Despite the constant chorus of “You’ll shoot your eye out,” regarding his heart’s desire, Ralphie won’t be deterred.
From the infamous leg lamp to the triple-dog-dare, every iconic moment sparkles with clever songs, lively choreography, and heartwarming humor. Packed with laughter, nostalgia, family fun, and a book by Joseph Robinette, this musical is bursting with warmth, wit, and wonder. A Christmas Story: The Musical is a laugh-out-loud holiday classic for audiences of all ages—guaranteed to leave you humming, laughing, and feeling like a kid again.
Renowned for their work on The Greatest Showman, La La Land and the Broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen, Pasek & Paul bring their signature emotional depth and melodic flair to the story of Ralphie Parker and his unforgettable holiday quest.
