Holly Day & the Rainbow Road to Debut at 6th Street Playhouse
Begin 2025 with Fun, Kindness and Community.
The whole family is invited to 6th Street Playhouse for a special Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) debut. Written by 6th Street’s Education Director, Jonathen Blue, Holly Day & the Rainbow Road is a charming musical about the joys and challenges of living in and giving to one’s community. Named one of The North Bay Bohemian’s ‘People of the Year,’ Blue directs with Playhouse Executive Artistic Director, Emily Lynn Cornelius, and is also music directing and choreographing the professional cast of actors. Katie Foster (Elephant & Piggie’s ‘We Are in a Play!’) stars as Holly Day. Holly Day and the Rainbow Road runs Saturdays & Sundays, January 4 – 18, at 11 am and 3 pm in the Monroe Stage—with additional performances at Charles M. Schulz Museum Theater.
“We not only have an amazing education program, but we are turning out new musicals for families to enjoy while introducing their youngsters to theatre.”
– Emily Lynn Cornelius, Executive Artistic Director
While this is the third season 6th Street has produced a mainstage TYA show, this year families get an extra special TYA debut of an a cappella musical that is like “Mr. Rogers” for a new generation. Holly Day & the Rainbow Road was written and conceived by 6th Street’s Education Director, Jonathen Blue – a man in the know when it comes to children’s theatre and the Sonoma County theatre scene. Having been in or on the creative team of 17 shows in 2024, he’s as busy as his character, Bea, and is dedicated to sharing the joys of being in community.
Blue is excited to introduce the children to multiple-voice a cappella (unaccompanied vocal music) singing, which most kids don’t have access to.
“Just like a community is made up of the voices of the people in it, in a cappella music every voice plays an important role,” he explains. “It’s not about singing without instruments or singing alone.”
This is also the third time 6th Street Playhouse has partnered with the Charles M. Schulz Museum, extending the joy of theatre further into the community. Four additional performances will play in their auditorium on January 25 and 26.
The Cast of Holly Day & the Rainbow Road is as follows:
Holly Day – Katie Foster
Bea – August Volz
Dinah – Aja Gianola
Mr. Maleman – David A. Bradbury
Nana Vicki – Carolyn Cole-Schweizer
