Playhouse to Celebrate 55th Anniversary of Live Theatre in Santa Rosa
Annual Fundraiser Set for June 22nd
SANTA ROSA, CA (June 2, 2025) – With a historic 55th season of live theatre concluding this month, 6th Street Playhouse celebrates their achievement, honors their loyal patronage, and strengthens community ties with their Annual Fundraiser and 55th Anniversary Celebration on June 22nd. The Playhouse’s Board has simultaneously announced that they will match any donations made toward the fundraiser up to $50,000, underscoring the importance of their largest fundraiser this year.
The organization established itself in the heart of Railroad Square under the name Santa Rosa Players (SRP) in 1970. It produced The Hi-Fever Follies as its premiere work, and still presents professional-caliber theatrical works 55 years later, making it the longest-running theatre company in Sonoma County.
Today, 6th Street Playhouse presents eight to ten plays and musicals per year as part of its mainstage season. Additionally, the Playhouse’s educational wing (6th Street Studio) performs between five to seven shortened titles per year for theatre students aged 5-18.
These endeavors make the Playhouse a staple in the Sonoma County community, with over 300 artists and 400 students engaged throughout the 2024-25 Season. Under the leadership of Executive Artistic Director Emily Lynn Cornelius, 6th Street Playhouse has partnered with other local organizations to both support and enrich Santa Rosa residents. This season alone, the Playhouse has become a distribution site for Redwood Empire Food Bank, and has provided books themed to each of its shows courtesy of Friends of the Santa Rosa Library. The theatre also has standing partnerships with Chop’s Teen Club, an after-school program for Sonoma County teens, and Alchemia, a fine arts organization for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
To honor its rich history, as well as the community which makes its continuation possible, the theatre has organized their largest fundraiser of the year in the form of a 55th Anniversary Celebration, which is scheduled for June 22nd. The event will feature a food truck, beer & wine garden, silent & live auctions, live entertainment, and more.
The Board of Directors has also vowed to recognize the crucial contributions of its patron base in two ways. First, the Board will match individual contributions made on their fundraising website up to $50,000. Furthermore, one individual will have their unique contributions recognized as the Board unveils their inaugural Supporter of the Year Award during the celebration.
Community favorites will provide the evening’s entertainment alongside a live band. Local star Shannon Rider, among others, is slated to perform.
When: Sunday, June 22nd from 4:00pm to 8:00pm, with a Family Fun Hour from 4:00pm – 5:00pm. Childrens’ admission is included with the purchase of any adult wristband, and supervised childcare is provided at no extra charge from 5:00pm to 8:00pm (after the Family Fun Hour).
