Love, grief, and the power of hope.
6th Street Playhouse is proud to present a workshop of The (Unbelievably True) Story of Nicky O, a new rock musical based on an incredible true story. In 2003, Nicky O’Neill was an aspiring teenage rockstar, the frontman and primary songwriter for the band Shryne. But just when it appeared he had his whole life ahead of him, Nicky became the youngest victim in the deadly Station Nightclub fire. He was only 18.
Then…shortly after his death, Nicky’s friends and family found a one-act play he had written. The subject: guardian angels. This discovery, alongside other supernatural events, left them to wonder: what if our loved ones never really leave us? What if they’re actually tasked with protecting our hearts? With saving us from drowning in grief, and reminding us that they are never gone…but rather, that they walk among us.
With original music by Nicky O’Neill and friends, alongside a brand new book by local thespian (and Nicky’s sister-in-law) Maureen O’Neill, Nicky O is moving, heartfelt, and surprisingly funny: the perfect tribute not just to Nicky, but to all the angels watching over us from above.
